Purpose of Campaign The Doris Manning Healthcare Awareness Campaign for Women is a year-long effort to educate and inform women on healthcare issues that effect them.
In the United States, women generally live long and healthy lives when compared to other less developed countries, but they still face many health issues involving cancer, disease, mental health, and pregnancy. In 2018, heart disease and cancer were the leading causes of death among women in the U.S., accounting for a combined 42 percent of all female deaths.
However, the death rate from suicide among U.S. women has increased slightly in recent years, highlighting the importance of mental health management and treatment. And, of course, one of the most important times in a woman’s life to be healthy is during pregnancy, as the health of the unborn baby depends on the health of the mother. However, despite the importance of being healthy during pregnancy, it was found that roughly 10 percent of pregnant women aged 15 to 44 drank alcohol or used tobacco products in 2019.* How You Can Help We will be listing various activities in which you can participate as part of this campaign on this page. We hope you will engage with us and spread the word about need for proper Healthcare for Women.
Take Our Survey We want to know what you think about women's health. We are conducting a survey in partnership with BeHeard BeHealthy PA. Please take this brief survey so we can include your opinion in our research.
BeHeard BeHealthy PA will measure and quantify what communities really need to get -- and stay -- healthy through regular surveys. Participants can sign up to weigh in every couple months about their needs, priorities, and opinions about policies that affect the health of their communities. Survey results will be publicly shared, but participants' identities will be kept confidential. The survey only takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Your answers will help show policymakers where they should focus attention to help the community, and how healthcare costs can be a barrier. As a reminder, your personal information is private and confidential.
